Ghana, formerly known as the Gold Coast, was the first state in the Sub- Saharan Africa to gain its independence from European Colonial Rule in the year 1957.

Explanation:

  • Ghana's case can be considered as a classic case of decolonization of the European colonial. It is also cased as monumental event because the independence was gained without any military confrontation.
  • After WWII, a pool strong educated elite men returned back home with a sense of nationalism and a strong foundation of self-rule.
  • The government of Ghana before the decolonization can be explained as a mixture of  direct rule from the central government and other institutes. The strong leadership of the men that returned from WWII weakened the European colonies.
  • Around that time, Ghana was developing economically and hence the power from the government officials gradually was shifted to the hands of Ghana Citizens. This power decentralization was also one of the strongest foundation of Ghana being independent.
