The three types of heat transfer
Heat is transfered via solid material (conduction), liquids and gases (convection), and electromagnetical waves (radiation). Heat is usually transfered in a combination of these three types and seldomly occurs on its own.
3.Conduction
Conduction heat transfer is the transfer of heat by means of molecular excitement within a material without bulk motion of the matter. Conduction heat transfer in gases and liquids is due to the collisions and diffusion of the molecules during their random motion.
2.Convection
When a fluid, such as air or a liquid, is heated and then travels away from the source, it carries the thermal energy along. This type of heat transfer is called convection. The fluid above a hot surface expands, becomes less dense, and rises.
3.Radiation
Radiation is the fastest mode of heat transfer while conduction is the slowest mode of heat transfer. Radiation is defined as the mode of heat transfer which takes place through the vacuum and doesn't require any physical medium.
