The different regions of the root include -
- Root cap
- Region of meristematic activity
- Region of elongation
- Region of maturation
- Root hairs
Root cap is the covering at the apex of the root and protects the tender apex of tej root.
Region of meristematic activity is observed the root cap. The cells here are very small, thin walled and with dense protoplasm. They divide repeatedly.
Region of elongation is the region above the meristematic region. The cells here undergo rapid elongation and enlargement. This area help in the growth of the root in length.
Region of maturation is the region of proximal to elongation zone. The cells here differentiate and mature.
Root hairs are thread like structures that are formed by epidermal cells in region behind region of elongation. They absorb water and minerals from the soil.
