A double salt is formed between two simple salts by crystallization from a saturated solution of a mixture of the two.

Individual salt components retain their properties.

Double salts contain more than one cation or anion.

Examples K2SO4.Al2(SO4)3.24H2O ( potash Alum), (NH4)2 Al2(SO4)3.24H2O (Ammonium Alum), and FeSO4(NH4)2 SO4.6H2O (Mohr’s Salt).

Answer:

Double salt :

When two salt are present in single salt known as double salt.

Two salt separation is shown as dot ( . )

For example:

Mohr salt :

Chemically :

FeSO₄ . ( NH4 ) ₂ . 6 H₂O

Here two salts are present:

First one is Ferrous sulphate and second one is NH4₄

Alum is one good example :

Chemically :

K₂SO₄ . Al₂( SO₄ )₃ .24 H₂O.
