a)because when water is heated,its particles acquire kinetic energy and starts to move far from each other.so,intermolecular space increases in the fluid and hence more sugar molecules gets dissolved in that. b)because the air near the cake is hot and lighter.so it rises up and diffuses with the surrounding air and therefore the surrounding air carries the smell and through continuous diffusion it reaches us.
