after passing electric current through water what is ionized with the help of a catalyst example Nickel and is separated into hydrogen and oxygen at the cathode and the anode this is what is electrolysis of water

Electrolysis of water- This process is carried out in an electrolytic cell which consists of two. Platinum electrodes these being chosen because Platinum does not dissolve into electrolyte and does not react with products of electrolysis the electrodes are immersed in water.


Small ammount of H2SO4 acid is added to increase the conductivity by increasing the number of free ions in the solution.
