Fertilisation in humans implies the fusion of sperm (male gamate) with the egg/ovum (female gamete) which results in the formation of zygote.

When sperms come in contact with an egg , one of the sperms may fuse with the egg. Such fusion of egg and the sperm is called fertilization. During fertilization the nuclei of the sperm and egg fuse to form a single nuclear . This results in formation of a fertilised egg or zygote. The process of fertilization is the meeting of an egg cell from mother and a sperm cell from father. There are 2 types of fertilization . They are :
1. Internal fertilization
2. External fertilization
