1. The northern part of West Africa is the SAHARA DESERT. Very few people can live there

2. Between the Sahara Desert and the more fertile savannahs comes the Sahel. This area often experiences droughts, and with drought comes famine. People living in this area are mainly herders of animals. The land can not support large populations

3. The more rainfall - the more you have ability to grow crops and food. The areas of high rainfall therefore have higher population densities as they can grow sufficient crops to support the population.

4. Rivers. West Africa has 4 major rivers. The Niger, The Volta, The Benue and The Senegal. Population is denser along the rivers as there is plenty of water and the soils are more fertile. Rivers also give the means to transport goods for trade and so on. They also supply fish.

5. Coastal areas - trade routes, ports, fishing etc

I hope it is correct

Thank You
