Heya
Here's your answer
Sodium (Z = 11) has the electronic configuration 2,8,1. In order to acquire the configuration of its nearest noble gas in the periodic table, i.e., neon (2,8), it loses its outermost (or valence) electron and changes into sodium cationic,
Na+.
Na → Na+ + e-
On the other hand, chorine (z = 17) atom has the electronic configuration 2,8,7. It accept* the electron lost by sodium atom to complete it's octet and acquire the electronic configuration of its nearest noble gas, i.e., argon (2,8,8) thus, forming chloride anion, Cl-.
Cl + e- → Cl-
The positively charged sodium cation, Na+ and negatively charged chloride anion, Cl- , as they approach each other, are held together by strong electronics force attraction.

Here is your answer.....
___________________________________
✔ Sodium (Na) atomic no. = 11
✔ electronic configuration= 2,8,1
✔ by losing one electron of its outermost shell , it acquires the inert gas configuration of neon and changes into sodium Ion .
✔On the other hand chlorine(Cl) atomic mass= 17
✔having electronic configuration= 2 ,8 ,7
Accepts one electron released by Sodium to complete its orbit and acquire stable configuration of argon in this process chlorine is converted into chloride ion .
