friction:the force which acts parallel to the contact force is called as friction.
1)friction always opposes the relative motion of the body
2)friction may oppose or support the motion of the body
examples:when a ball is rolling on rough surface it stops because of friction opposes the motion.
VARIOUS TYPES OF FRICTION ARE :
1)static friction :the force which tries to move an object at rest then there may develop an opposing force parallel to the plane of contact is called as static friction.it is also called as self adjusting force .
2)kinetic friction :when a body moves on a rough surface then there may exist a frictional force parallel to the plane of contact is called the kinetic friction .it is also called sliding friction,or dynamic friction.
