The main advantage of this circuit over ordinary full-wave rectifier circuit is that the output voltage can be controlled by adjusting the gate current.

With a Resistive Load

During the positive half-cycle of the supply voltage, the SCR is forward-biased and will conduct if a trigger is applied to the gate. If the SCR turns on at tω load current flows and the output voltage VO will be the same as the input voltage.
