Explain giving example where active involvement of local people lead to efficient management of forest .

The example can be seen in the Law of management 1972 made in West Bengal. Where the government prohibited the people to even enter the forest and eliminated all the tribes living in the forest to practice cultivation and this raise the conflict among the government and tribes. the conflict ended when both decided to compromise a little and this resulted in the better management.

In West Bengal, the Sal forests had been very badly degraded. A forest officer involved villagers in protection of Sal forest and gave them employment in silviculture and harvesting operations. Villagers were allowed to collect firewood and fodder on a nominal payment. Within a period of 10 years the previously worthless forests became valuable.
