Sound waves gets reflected multiple times from roof in cinema halls as it cant escape outside since its closed. If the cinema hall's roof was plain it would reflect multiple time (reverberation) and will reach listeners many times making sound's quality poor. With help of curved ceilings it can be reduced to great extend, that's why curved ceilings are used in cinema halls.
