The metal rim gets heated to fix it on to a cart because metal rims are made slightly smaller.
On heating, the rim expands and fits on to the wheel. Then on cooling, the rim contracts and fits slightly on to the wheel.
It is a physical process. Physical process is a sustained phenomenon or one marked by gradual changes through a series of states.

Answer:
1) The iron rim is slightly smaller than the wooden wheel.
2) The iron rim is heated uniformly by making a fire due to which it expands.
3) Being bigger in size, the hot rim is easily put around the wooden wheel.
4) Cold water is then poured over the hot rim to cool it
5) On cooling, the hot rim contracts or become smaller in size and fits tightly on to the wooden wheel.
