Energy from moving air. Wind is caused by uneven heating of theearth's surface by the sun. Because the earth's surface is made up ofdifferent types of land and water, it absorbs the sun's heat at differentrates. One example of this uneven heating is the daily wind cycle.

During the day, the land surfaceheats up faster than the water surface. Therefore, the air above theland is warmer than the air above theocean. Now, recall that warmer air is lighter than cooler air. As a result, warm air rises.
