The water requires heat when it changes from liquid to Vapour state. The water gives back heat when vapour condenses into liquid and a very low pressure area is created. This is how a thunderstorm becomes a cyclone. Cyclones are produced over the sea in tropical areas when the air is warm and humid.
Formation of cyclone involve the following steps :
1.The heated air above the sea rises up with a lot of moisture in it. Water vapours contain heat energy.
2. When this hot air laden with moisture reaches the upper cooler region of atmosphere the vapour condenses to form water vapours . Latent heat of steam is released which heats up the surrounding air.
3. This heated air becomes lighter and Rises up further, which produces low pressure region.
4. More air rushes towards the centre of this low pressure.
5. This air starts rotating and take the shape of huge spiral.
6. Centre of the cyclone is cloudless and calm. But wind around the Centre may have a speed of around 200 -260 km per hour.

Explanation:
The water requires heat when it changes from liquid to Vapour state. The water gives back heat when vapour condenses into liquid and a very low pressure area is created. This is how a thunderstorm becomes a cyclone. Cyclones are produced over the sea in tropical areas when the air is warm and humid. To form a cyclone, warm, moist air over the ocean rises upward from near the surface. As this air moves up and away from the ocean surface, it leaves is less air near the surface. So basically as the warm air rises, it causes an area of lower air pressure below. ... Higher pressure air from above flows down into the eye.
