Explain how Belgium was able to solve ethnic problems? Why power sharing is desirable ?

1. Dutch and French speaking ministers are equal in the central government.

2.Some of the Powers of the central government have been given to state governmentt.
The state governments  are not subordinate to the central government.

3. Brussels has a separate government where both the communities have equal representation.

4.There is another government  called community government  elected by the people belonging to Dutch, French and German.



There are two reasons for power sharing to be desirable- prudential and moral reasons. prudential reasons are that it avoids conflicts. social conflicts leads to violence and political instability. imposing the will of majority community over minority may look like an attractive option in short run but later.. it can undermine the unity of our nation. moral reasons are that power sharing is the very spirit of democracy. a democratic rule involves power sharing with those who are affected by it
