CO2 being heavier than oxygen, covers the fire like blanket and also brings down the temperature of fuel.

Ashutoshkumar410: as fire requires o2 to burn and if the fire will not get proper o2 it will estinguise and do not show the process of cumbultion
sonalisinghrajpczv99: yes it reduces the temperature
Ashutoshkumar410: but to lit up fire it takes O2 and when CO2 is provided it stops burning

when we apply co2 on the fires it cut the supply of oxygen in fires. because co2 is heavier then oxygen.

sonamuthukumar2: co2 forms a layer above oxygen . this process blocks the supply of oxgen as oxgen i an essential requirement for fire ,if its supply is blocked then the fire will be controlled
