The Trees in Forest act as water reservoirs and help in retaining the water in tree tops for a longer time.
If Deforestation Happens Then Water Will Simply Flow And Will Not Have Enough Time To seep in the ground. This also leads to soil erosion

Plants help to raise the water level to the highest level. If we remove the plants or trees the rainwater will not be absorbed by the surface because of the absence of the plants the water is not recharged.
Deforestation causes sunlight to reach the ground directly. It causes the ground to dry up due to the increased hit and evaporation rates. After deforestation, the area becomes barren, rainfall becomes less & lesser & ultimately no rainfall at all. So groundwater gets dry as there is no other source of water
