Real heat engines are less efficient than Carnot engines. (a) Real engines use irreversible processes, reducing the heat transfer to work. Solid lines represent the actual process; the dashed lines are what a Carnot engine would do between the same two reservoirs.

I Think So It Will Help U ,
Carnot engine cannot work if source and sink are interchanged. This is because isothermal expansion should take place first. If the cylinder is placed on the sink first, then isothermal compression takes place, which is literally not possible.
