Gratiano's fortune too stood upon the casket because Nerrisa had agreed to marry him only if Bassanio would choose the right casket and marry Portia. Nerrisa was the woman-in-waiting of Portia. Hence, the choice of casket by Bassanio was not only to chose the fortune of himself but of Gratiano as well.
