Momentum gets conserved in collision between two bodies because,

suppose,
car A is travelling with the speed of u1
and the second car B is travelling with the speed of u2.

if the collides,

speed of A will be decreased and the speed of car B will be increased.

losing speed of A will be gained by the speed of car B.

that's came by the formula,
m1u1+m2u2 = m1v1+m2v2
