Answer:

Explanation:

During the gamete formation the mother cell  divides into four daughter cells each with n number of chromosomes. This is called meiotic cell division. Unlike the vegetative cells of the body which undergo mitotic cell division where mother cell divides into two daughter cells having 2n number of chromosomes.

This meiotic division takes place in both the male and female. Thus the male gamete and the female gamete both have n number of chromosomes. An offspring is created by the fusion of male and female gamete i.e. n number of chromosomes of male gamete combines with n number of chromosomes of female gamete to give 2n number of chromosomes of zygote.

After the fertilization the zygote undergoes mitotic cell division to give an offspring having 2n number of chromosomes. the parents also have 2n number of chromosomes. therefore, the offspring and parents of organism reproducing sexually have the same number of chromosomes due to meiotic cell division.

Answer:

Sexual reproduction involves gamete formation. Number of chromosomes is halved during gamete formation. As a result, when two gametes fuse during fertilization, the number of chromosomes in zygote becomes same as in somatic cell of the organism. This ensures that offsprings produced by sexual reproduction have the same number of chromosomes as their parents.
