it is determined by the chromosome in male sperm. x chromosome is male and y chromosome is female.
in a female egg there is one y chromosome present.
if the sperm is x chromosome and it mates with egg then xy chromosome makes male.
if y sperm mates with the egg then yy chromosome makes female.
