The dermis is the thick layer of living tissue below the epidermis which forms the true skin, containing blood capillaries, nerve endings, hair follicles, sweat glands etc. The dermis is tightly connected to the epidermis by a basement membrane. The nerve endings in it provide the sense of touch and external temperature or that of any substance that it comes in contact with.

Our skin help us to feel, touch, sense hot, cold, pressure and pain. It forms a continuous layers all around our body. Under the surface of the skin, it has many nerves which helps us to touch and sends messages to the brain. Skin also covers the body and protects us from dirt, germs and from getting hurt. This is how our skin behave as a sense organ.
