Consider the case of blacks in U.S.A.
Blacks in USA are neither powerful nor constitutes the majority in the country.These social differences overlap and leads to social division.
Although Barack Obama is black but he is powerful. These are cross cutting differences. This separates Obama from the powerless Black section of the USA and at the same time he is placed among the most powerful people of USA , which a Black cannot have aspired for.
