energy is obtained by breakdown of carbon based molecules like glucose. for breakdown of this oxygen is required which is obtained by exchange of gases.

the process is respiration and the gases are oxygen and carbon dioxide.

the food manufactured in photosynthesis reach the storage area in roots with the help of phloem tissue (sieve tube) by the process of translocation in which the energy in the form of ATP is used in transfer of food.
