1) Metal M which is in the middle of the reactivity series can be extracted by the process of calcination or roasting depending whether the ore is carbonate ore or sulphide ore. then the obtained oxide ore can be reduced by carbon.
EX: 2ZnO + C-----> + 2Zn
2)The metals which are highly reactive can be extracted by the process of electrolysis.
EX: NaCl -------> 2Na + Cl2(by electrolysis)
EX: 2ZnO + C-----> + 2Zn
