DNA has a double helix structure and the connection between the two strands are made possible through the nucleotides present.

The nucleotides are Adenine, Guanine, Thiamine, and Cytosine.

During the transcription, the DNA molecule unzips to allow the formation of mRNA. The difference that is evident is that mRNA does not have thiamine but instead, it has Uracil.

The importance of genetic information is that when no proper coding is not done, the proteins in the DNA will be assembled improperly or no protein will be available. No organism can exist without proper proteins.
