(a) If E. Coli has been transformed then these ‘transformed E.coli’ cells would be able to grew on ampicillin medium.

(b) Ampicillin resistant gene acts as a selectable marker in this case.

Answer:

To find whether an E.coil bacterium has been transformed or not when a recombinant DNA bearing amplicillin resistant gene is transferred into it is the recombinant plasmid will lose resistance due to insertion of DNA which is if foreign and it can still be selected out from non recombinant ones by plating the transformanrs on ampicillin containing medium.Non recombinant will grow on the medium containing both antibotics.
