explain how we can connect an ammeter voltmeter in a circuit while performing experiment for studying the dependence of current (I) on a potential difference (V) across a resistor.

Ammeter is to be connected in series combination with the circuit/resistor and voltmeter is to be connected in parallel combination with the resistor.

Assuming your question to be the experimental setup of Ohm’s Law,

i.e.  "The current through a conductor between two points is directly proportional to the voltage across the two points  given that temperature and pressure is constant"

The connections should be made as follows:

  • Voltmeter in parallel with the resistor.
  • Ammeter in series with the resistor.
