Ok so instead of think of it as a number line think of it as a Train track. That train track has 9 pieces they start building in the middle Or you could say the 5th piece now there are 4 train track pieces in front of it and 4 train track pieces behind it so if you start at the 5th piece and walk back 3 times that is the third piece and that is where you Graph point P at -3 on a number line
