The middle ear is divided into three parts-:

Outer ear
Middle ear
Inner ear

Outer ear-- it has PINNA. Outer ear receives the vibrations and transmits them to the ear canal. The canal convies vibrations that strikes to a stretched membrane called as EAR DRUM also known as TYMPHANIC MEMBRANE. Then the vibrations are transmitted to middle ear.

Middle ear--- it has three delicate bones that are hammer, anvil, stapes. These transfer the vibrations to the inner ear.

Inner ear---It has a coiled tube called cochlea. Tiny hairs in this liquid filled tube pick up the vibrations from the middle ear and they send the signals to the brain through auditory canal.

And then we hear sound.

the human ear is concerned with two functions hearing and body balance

it has three main divisions
1)outer ear
2)middle ear
3)inner ear

--------------------------------------------------

OUTER EAR -

the outer ear consists of the project in part PINNA and the passage called AUDITORY CANAL leading to the EARDRUM or TYMPANUM

================================

MIDDLE EAR -

the middle ear contains 3 tiny bones - MALLEUS, INCUS AND STAPPES and an EUSTACHIAN TUBE which connects the cavity of the middle ear with the throat the three bones are collectively called the ear ossicles the handle of the MALLEUS bone is attached to the inner surface of the eardrum its opposite end is connected to the INCUS which in turn is joined to the STAPPES. the flat part of the stapes fits on the so called OVAL WINDOW , a membrane covering leading to the inner ear . A second opening called tge ROUND WINDOW also covered by a thin membrane connects the middle and the inner ear.

================================

INNER EAR -

the inner ear or membranous Labyrinth shows two main parts the COCHLEA and the SEMI CIRCULAR CANNALS .

the cochlea is spiral shape it and looks like a snail shell . it has two and a half turns. its inner winding cavity is divided into three parallel cannals separated by membranes. the median cannal is filled with a fluid called ENDOLYMPH and the other two with PERILYMPH . the middle Canal contains areas processing sensory cells spiral organ called ORGAN OF CORTI for hearing. the nerve fibres arising from these cells join the auditory nerve . sensory cells lie on the BASILAR MEMBRANE.

the other parts of the inner ear is a set of three semicircular Canal which are arranged at right angles to each other in three different planes so that one is horizontal and the other two are vertical.

the short stem joining the basis of semicircular canals to the cochlea shows two parts the UTTRICULUS and the SACCULUS .these parts also contain sensory cells for static balance
