hi
how are you
I like your attitude very much
Answer: (a) The basis of similarities between the metallic and ionic crystals are the electrostatic forces of attraction. ... (b) The ionic solids are hard and brittle because of strong electrostatic forces of attraction which are present in the oppositely charged ions.

(i) The basis of similarities between the metallic and ionic crystals are the electrostatic forces of attraction. ... The basis of difference is the absence of mobility of ions in the ionic crystals while the same is present in the valence electrons in case of metallic crystals.
(ii) The reason why ionic compounds are hard and brittle is because the ions in the compound are already held rigidly in place in a lattice due to the strong electrostatic forces of attraction in between the cations and the anions as well as the repulsion in the ions with like charges .
