Explain ice, water and steam are the three states of same substance and not different subtace'

The substance in the same with chemical formula H2O. In its natural form it is liquid and we call it water. On freezing, it becomes ice and gets into a solid state while on excessive heating it gets converted to gaseous state and is called steam.
