The earthquake basically is caused due to the collision of tectonic plates. when they overrides one another, it results in the release of energy and thus results in the formation of volcanoes, mountains and earthquakes.
There are certain other factors which results in the earthquake like the volcanic eruptions in which when the magma is trying to get out on the earth surface thus exerting pressure, causing earthquake.
Folding and faulting also plays role in the occurance of ther earthquake.
