1. Preparation of Electoral Rolls
The commision prepares a list of all the eligible voters in every constituency and this list is called Voter's List.

2. Delimitation of Constituency
The commission divides the are of election in several constituency, the boundaries of which is clearly mentioned.

3. Fixing the Election Dates
The government suggests the date of election to the commission and the right lies with the commission whether they accept that date or deny it with a valid reason. Hence, the election commission fixes the date after seeing that the elections must he fair and free.

4. Scrutiny of Nomination Papers
The candidates willing to participate in election give their requests to the commission up to a particular date and the commission checks the requests and accept or denies depending on the situation.

5. Allotment of Election Symbols
The political parties are given certain election symbols in order to make it easier for a common man to recognize the party.

6. Holding of Elections
Booths are set up in every constituency and elections are held the fixed date as assigned by the election commission.

7. Counting Votes and Declaring Results
The respective officials count the votes and declare the results.
