Membrane fluidity is affected by fatty acids. More specifically, if the fatty acids are saturated or unsaturated has an effect on membrane fluidity. Saturated fatty acids have no double bonds in the hydrocarbon chain, and the maximum amount of hydrogen.

The double bond increases fluidity. It allows membrane proteins rapidly in the plane of bilayer. It permits membrane lipids and proteins to diffuse from sites where they are inserted into bilayer after their synthesis.
