In most animals sexual reproduction takes place but in other simple multicellular organisms like planaria , hydra , Spirogyra, asexual reproduction is common .....
In sexual reproduction, the process of reproduction starts with fertilization of gametes of two organisms of same species... Such as in human beings fertilisation of male and female gametes occurs to form zygote ( the first cell of new individual)... Baby develops in mother's womb after implantation for 9 months... This was the process of reproduction in human beings...

In animals, sperm is a male gamete and ovum is female gamete. Male gametes are formed in the male reproductive organs, testes. Female gametes are formed in the female reproductive organs, ovaries. Fusion of the male and female gametes is called fertilization. When fertilization takes place outside the body, it is called external fertilization and when fertilization takes place inside the body is called internal fertilization. After a fertilization, a zygote is formed which develops into a new organisms.
