The law of constant proportions was first proposed by Proust. It is also known as law of definite proportions. This proportion states that " In a chemical substance the elements are always present in definite proportions by mass."
For example..If 9 g of water is decomposed then 1g of hydrogen and 8g of oxygen are always obtained.
hope this helps you...

This law was given by Proust in 1779.This law states that 'a chemicalcompound always consist of same elements combined to get the insane proportion by mass..

Explanation

Different elements combined to form compound. The number of the atom, the kind of the atom and the mass of the atom of each element in a compound is fixed. Therefore, a compound have same element combined to get the insane proportion by mass.

for eg - In water molecule the ratio of hydrogen and oxygen is 1:8, whatever may be the source of water or if 9 g of water is decomposed it always gives 1g of hydrogen and 8 g of oxygen.
