Explain in short how matter is a part of 'Panch Tatva'?

Indian philosophers thought that all the things on the earth (matter) is made up of panchtatva meaning air, fire, earth, sky, water. they relates them as earth, water, air and fire as three states of matter-of-fact solid, liquid and gas and the fifth one sky as vaccum meaning nothing but an empty space.
