To be eligible to become a judge of the supreme court,a person must be a citizen of India. A judge of the high court/courts for a minimum period of five years or a distinguished jurist in the opinion of the president of India.


Power and it's function:-

Original jurisdiction :-It is exercised in cases which originat in supreme court, which means they can be heard in the supreme court for the first time.

(1) between the union one or more states.

(2)visa on one or more states .

(3) between two or more states. Inter state disputes regarding sharing of water and Power also come under this category.


Appellate jurisdiction:-It is exercised to hear appeals against the decision of the high court and other court regarding constitutional , civil and criminal cases.


Advisory jurisdiction:-It cover constitutional issues or matter of public importance of the president of India desire to obtain the oppinion of the supreme court.


Supervisory jurisdiction :- Empower the supreme court to supervise the functioning of all the courts below it


Court Of Record :- the supreme court function as the court of record.
