India occupies an important strategic position in South Asia as

1) India has the longest coastline in the Indian Ocean which is dotted with ports

2) These ports have provided connectivity to the countries lies to its East as well as West

3) as a result the oceanic routes helped in exchange of commodity ,art, architectural styles ,concept of mathematics ,religion, ideas, etc between the countries
