It is the process of intake of air
1. Muscles of diaphragm contract, that increases the volume of thoracic cavity antero posteriorly
2. External inter costal muscle contract and lifts up the ribs and sternum. As a result volume of thoracic cavity increases dorsoventaly.
3. Lungs expand pulmonary volume increases and intrapulmonary pressure decreases (758 mm of Hg). Now it is less than atmospheric pressure (760 mm of Hg). With this result air rushes into the lungs.
