ionic bonds or electrovalent bonds are those formed by actual movement of eletron from Electropositive element...(tendency to give up eletrons) ( like metals from group 1 or 2) to electronegative element (tendency to take up eletrons) (like halogens).
These bonds are very strong.
whereas covalent bonds are formed between atoms of non-metals like N2, Cl2
by sharing of eletrons to complete their octet. i. e the eletron isn't transfered from one atom to another as in ionic bond, but shared by both.
