A kaleidoscope is an optical instrument with two or more reflecting surfaces tilted to each other in an angle , so that one or more objects on one end of the mirrors are seen as a regular symmetrical pattern , when viewed on the other end .

It is a device based on the principle of multiple reflections. It consists of three steps of mirror M1, M2 and M3 inclined at an angle of 60° to each other and enclosed in a cylinder tube. One end of the tube is closed by means of a piece of milky translucent paper while the other end is closed by a piece of cardboard with the whole at its centre. Several dates of multi coloured glass pieces are loosely enclosed between the three inclined mirrors.

Beautiful coloured patterns are seen when viewed through the whole of the cardboard along the axis of the tube. If we turned the tube the glass pieces arrange differently and we see new design.
