KREB'S CYCLE:

✍ It is a set of biochemical reactions which are a part of aerobic respiration and utilize acetate generated through carbohydrates, fats and proteins for generation of energy.✍

❂ The first step is the breakdown of glucose , a 6 carbon molecule into three carbon molecule called pyruvate. This process takes place in the cytoplasm.

❂ Then fermentation takes place. It is the process in which pyruvate in yeast cells get converted into ethanol and carbon dioxide in the absence of Oxygen.

❂ Pyruvate is converted into lactic acid which is also a 3 carbon molecule. This happens when there is a lack of oxygen in our muscle cells when we do heavy exercise.

❂ Breakdown of pyruvate using oxygen takes place in the mitochondria. This process gives the product : carbon dioxide, water and energy. It is called aerobic respiration.
