In the laboratory, dihydrogen gas is prepared by taking zinc granules in a 500 ml flask.
To this, dilute HCl or dilute sulphuric acid is added through a thistle funnel.
Dihydrogen gas is released and the gas is collected by the downward displacement of water because it is a gas lighter than water
Reaction:
Zn(s)+2HCl (aq) →ZnCl2(aq) +H2(g)
Zn (s) +HH SO4(aq)→ZnSO 4(aq) +H2(g)
