Dihydrogen gas is released and the gas is collected by the downward displacement of water because it is a gas lighter than water

Zn(s)+2HCl (aq) →ZnCl2(aq) +H2(g)
Zn (s) +HH SO4(aq)→ZnSO 4(aq) +H2(g)
