Human Male Reproductive System comprises of Testes,Epididymis,Vas Deferens , Accessory Glands and Penis
- Testis is considered the primary male sex organ in humans as it is involved in production of both spermatozoa and androgens
- Testis is present in the scrotal sac (extra abdominal in nature). During the seventh month of gestation, the testis descends into the scrotum through inguinal canals along with ducts, veins and cremaster muscle. The cremaster muscle coordinates the position of testes in accordance with the body temperature and external temperature
.
- The functional unit of testis is seminiferous tubules. The transverse section of testes would show 250 testicular lobules. Seminiferous tubules occur as highly coiled structures in the same lobules. These tubules house two kind of cells, namely : spermatogonia (produces spermatozoa) and serotoli cells (nourishes the spermatozoa). Interstitial spaces of testes house the Leydig Cells which are endocrinous in nature (secrete androgens)
- The seminiferous tubules extend as straight tubules forming Tubuli Recti which opens into openings collectively known as Rete Testes. Vasa Efferentia further carries the spermatozoa to the Epididymis
- Epididymis constitutes of three parts, namely Corpus,Caput and Cauda .
- Epididymis stores the male gamete for further development and further is taken by Vas Deferens to the Prostate Gland
- The accessory glands are Prostate Gland,Cowper's Gland and Seminal Vesicles
- The spermatozoa is stored in prostate for nourishment. Further, the Vas Deferens terminates into Ampulla which recieves secretions of the other two glands
- Penis is a tall cylindrical copulatory structure through which the urethra opens into the surroundings. The anterior part of penis is known as Glans Penis and is covered by ForeSkin .
- The ampulla joins with urethra (20 cm in males) from the Urinary Bladder. The Urethra is divided into three regions depending upon its location. Prostate Part , Membranous Part and Penile Urethra
- The Urethra opens into the exterior by an opening called Meatus
