Antibiotics are given when a person is suffering from a bacterial infection.

Working Mechanism:

  • Some antibiotics simply, kill the bacteria by producing more white blood cells in the body.
  • However, some antibiotics target the growth and reproduction rate of bacteria which does let the bacteria increase their population in the host's body leading, to their death ultimately.
  • Some other types of antibodies tend to work both of the above ways mentioned. They can kill the bacteria as well as seize their reproductive capacity.

Examples of Antibiotics:

  1. Typhoid: It is a bacterial disease caused by a bacteria which is known as Salmonella typhi. Commonly prescribed antibiotics for the treatment of this disease include - Ciprofloxacin, Azithromycin, Ceftriaxone.
  2. Tuberculosis: Tuberculosis, sometimes referred to as TB in short, is one of the most dangerous bacterial diseases. It is caused by a bacteria known as - Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Some antibiotics that are used to cure TB are- Isoniazid, Rifampicin, Ethambutol, etc.

Hence, antibiotics are used to cure many other bacterial diseases like the ones mentioned above.
